Here's one more thing where we thought of our kitties: a wall with steps leading up to a fleece-padded basket. Ramses likes to take his afternoon naps there. The steps are made of wooden shelves, painted chocolate brown and putty white, and attached on the wall with shelf supports from Ikea.

Im trying to find out the mechanics of this (also posted on moderncat):
i LOVE this! How do i secure this to the wall? What sort of screws, etc should i get to make this super sturdy?
We did it a bit differently than the one posted in moderncat, I think. We bought the metal supports from Ikea but got the wooden shelves from a hardware store and had them sawn to correct length. The uppermost plateau is "deeper" but as long.
The shelves have to be attached according to the wall material. Ours is gypsum plate and so we attached it with special gypsum plate screws + plugs. They make huge holes in the wall due to the large diameted of the plug (it's got flaps which open outwards when the screw is screwed in, keeping the construction in place).
thank you! im going to try it this weekend.
You're welcome. :c) I hope you will succeed. Good luck!
