Picture postcard from The Other Place*

Oxford is pretty in May. Spring sunlight renders the sandstone walls golden...
...and convinces the roses to invade the city.
Magdalen college and its deer pastures bathe in sunlight...
...but why does one of its ever-vigilant guards look so frightened?
Lunch at Quod brasserie was excellent, cream tea at the Grand Café absolutely lovely, and the Victorian collection of anthropological oddities at the Pitt Rivers museum simply bizarre. Who knew the Inuit used to make windbreakers from seal intestines?

*=traditional Oxford-Cambridge rivalry requires avoidance of the name of "the other place". This is somewhat silly, since Oxbridge schools also traditionally stand united to face the world.
